another night, another empty box of surprises... [13 Jul 2006|04:24am]
[ mood | creepy ]
[ music | The Only Living Boy In New York - Simon and Garfunkel ]

ok. so its been just about forever since this journal has been active, but with all the goings on of my "sideproject" (i hate that moniker) and such, I decided it was high time to start using it again.

since we've last spoken a number of things have happened.

a.) Demerit 7 is no longer a band. All of the members have moved on to bigger and better things. Tyler and Austin have been playing some stuff together and its sounding awesome so keep your eye out for that. Camron is doing his part to save the scene and helping put on shows. Also dabbling in the management and business side of the industry. And as you'll read later, I've been hard at work on a solo project that will eventually blow you away.

b.) me and mary broke up. its weird to even bring that up in this context, but she's been all over this journal and i don't feel like having to delete 4353245 comments asking about it. so don't ask.

c.) i got a new computer. it is more amazing than life itself.

d.) i'm now clinically addicted to pepsi and beef jerky.

e.) i have a studio in my dining room now that lets me make music any time i want. (yes, its that awesome.) but if someone wants to buy me an electronic drum set (for my apartment) that'd be great. 1, 2, 3, go.

f.) (why the hell am i using letters for this list?) i've started playing piano more and i'm loving it with every new day. i'm getting better and starting to realize why i loved it in the first place.

g.) and finally, i've started a new music project called "The Story Of A Boy" its me. all me. and its amazing. i figured out that if its a "solo" project then i can make any kind of music i want. i could write a country/rap song if i really felt like it. i won't. but i could.

The rest of this entry will explain The Story Of A Boy the best I can, I implore you to read it and let me know what you think. Its a little hard to explain to someone who doesn't really know me personally but I'll do my best.

For the confused in the audience, its like this:

Girls can be REALLY lame.

Music can be really good.

Put the two together and you've got 85% of all good music ever written.

I'm making this music for me, and me alone. If someone else happens to benefit from it, or enjoy listening then that's awesome.

This is me trying to get my thoughts out there in the only way I really know how.

The album is tentatively called "The Story." (As such because it will tell the story of one of the greastest romances/heartbreaks of all time.)

Here's an (EXTREMELY TENTATIVE) tracklisting (As of today, it will probably look totally different every 48 hours):

"The Story"

- The Beginning (We Might As Well Have Founded New Jersey)
- Daniel (It's Amazing How Much Of My Life Has Been Determined By A Quarter Inch Piece Of Plastic)
- Three Small Words (Eight Letters, Three Words, One Mistake)
- Ben (I Hate To Have To Cut The Fun Short, But The Joke's Wearing Thin)
- Russell (Congratulations, You Finally Brought Down The Eiffel Tower)
- Jessica (It's Never Too Late To Become What I Know You Could Have Been)
- Aaron Pt. 1 (It's Amazing What You Can Do When You Put Your Heart In To It...)
- Aaron Pt. 2 (I'm Not Sure Which Feels Worse, Sleeping With You Or You Sleeping With Him)
- Aaron Pt. 3 (Andrew McMahon, Please Don't Sue Me)
- Lauren (Let's All Take A Crash Course In Keeping Secrets)
- Aaron Pt. 4 (2 Years Vs. 2 Days, You Make The Call...)
- The End (TBA)

And for those who don't already know you can check out some of the new music over at http://myspace.com/thestoryofaboy & http://purevolume.com/thestoryofaboy. some of which has drawn its inspiration from this very journal.

If you're creepy enough you may find some of the lyrics buried in the posts here. But don't do that, it'd be boring. and I'd feel bad for you being so bored.

Also, the idea right now (in my head) is to release this cd as a package called "The Story" which would include the cd, some literature by yours truly and possibly some other entertainment media (video?).

I've got a plan, a promise and a sleeve full of tricks...

I guess that will do it for now. Leave me your thoughts, concerns, opinions, etc. and I'll get back to you.

-a

P.S. - If anyone knows what channel the play all the old GOOD nick at nite shows on please let me know. I'm sick of watching 378327 hours of Cosby a night...

Kris Roe just changed my life... [17 Jan 2006|01:59am]
[ mood | grateful ]
[ music | The Ataris (Duh) ]

OK, i just saw one of the most amazing shows in my entire life. Kris and John from The Ataris are touring around the country playing acoustic shows to promote their cd which they just finished recording. They are playing small clubs to small audiences and the shows are turning out to have a real personal feel to them. (So I heard) I hate to be cliché, but OH EM GEE! I was standing literally a foot and a half away from one of the men who made me want to play music for the rest of my life. It was like a pilgrimage for me. I know this sounds a little lame, and it would be probably be impossible to explain to anyone how I feel right now. The best part was hearing Kris talk about the stories behind the songs and explain why he couldn't bare to play the songs which he'd written originally for his (now) ex-wife anymore. It was simply amazing. I also learned the story behind one of my favorite Ataris' song: Teenage Riot. Turns out Kris wrote about Denton! and about a crazy night playing at Rubber Gloves, the very club they played at tonight. So needless to say, it was an amazing night. After the show I got to talk to him for a bit, (Him and John both signed my sidekick) where he proceeded to write his name, a heart, and the type of liquor he was currently totally wasted on) I am so happy that I was able to be there, see that, hear those songs in that way. It was unexplainable. Thank you for listening-

p.s. mary: i'm deleting adam from TBS and adding Kris Roe ;)

Ok so here's the deal. In 1996 Taco Bell stopped "pre-cutting" their mexican pizzas into 4 slices and instead began delivering them as 1 giant circular lump. Anyone who knows me knows that I feel this was a huge oversight on the part of Taco Bell's consumer relations department. Basically I have been distraught ever since BUT today- January 5th, 2006 I ordered a mexican pizza from my local Taco Bell and to my complete amazement and surprise I opened my meal to reveal a PRECUT MEXICAN PIZZA! I know to many of you this entire post may seem ridiculous but I've waited ten years for this. My childhood was filled with wonderful pre-cut fast food wonders. And now I've got it back. I couldn't be happier. To amuse and entertain you and also to further solidify my nerdom I've included an image (taken with my new sidekick 2) below the cut ;)

this is enough [16 Dec 2005|09:25pm]
[ mood | Slightly Miffed ]

Ok this is enough, for a few months now, the Music Publishers' Association or "MPA" have been taking down guitar tab and lyric websites. David Israelite, president of the National Music Publishers' Association, expressed his so-called "concerns" by saying: "Unauthorised use of lyrics and tablature deprives the songwriter of the ability to make a living, and is no different than stealing..." This is insane. Since when has it been illegal for musicians to learn to play each other's songs?

Another issue that hits pretty close to home with me is that of a piece of software called "PearLyrics." All this software did was allow you to easily search for song lyrics for whatever song you were currently playing on your computer or any song you wish really. But the higher-ups somehow confused this with violating some sort of law and had the small programmer behind PearLyrics shut down. Keep in mind that all the program did was search websites that were already on the internet and give that information to the user in a readable, manageable way.

A Warner Chappell statement said the company wanted to ensure songwriters were "fairly compensated for their works and that legitimate sites with accurate lyrics are not undermined by unlicensed sites".

Organizations like Warner Chappell and the MPA have pushed this too far. They have taken a simple battle for monetary profit off artistic works and turned into a global war against information freedom. If we, the netizens, music nerds, and users of the internet allow this type of thing to go on any longer, we will be facing a situation no different then when you tried to wear you favorite t-shirt with the words "BUCK FUSH" on it into your 9th grade science class and were promptly asked to leave. The internet is freedom, that has always been its purpose and idea. That we, the people of the world, could control how and when we get information. I'm almost amazed when I hear stories like this of small companies and websites that work REALLY hard to provide quality content getting shut down because some corporate figure head decided it would make him look good. These types of sites are NOT the reason your industry is losing money. The reason you're losing money is because you're spending all of your time trying to stop the inevitable.

i just went sledding at my apartment complex. it was simply amazing. the craziest thing: we weren't alone. there were definently about 10 other groups of people out trying to do it. i think we all got a little banged up in the process and taking the "sleds" down the stairs probably wasn't a good idea either but oh well. We went out with 4 sleds, we came back with 2 still in-tact. message of the day: "if you're going to use the iced over "hills" at your apartment complex for some wintertime fun, make sure that you have surveyed the area for rocks, trees, and drunks before you attempt anything..."

MH Mixtape 002: "I Bought Too Much Ammo, Now My Wagon Is Too Heavy And I'll Never Make It To Oregon" [06 Dec 2005|06:51am]
[ mood | geeky ]
[ music | Senses Fail - Rum Is For Drinking Not Burning ]

Here goes round two of the migraineheartache. mixtapes. series, I've fallen in love with the process and I'll probably be posting quite a few more in the future. This one has a couple of notes: First, the title should be attributed to my good friend Kira. This is because she'll probably try and eat me if I claim it as my own. Second, the story: this one is a little on the fun side and represents the songs I like to listen to when I'm in that "silly", "I'm An Outlaw" kind of a mood. Another note, I had to use another server on this one so please disregard where the files are hosted.

posting entries from the bathtub is fun. i emplore you all to try it. however, if you somehow electricute yourself or fry your laptop in the process, i deny responsibility ;). i guess i really don't have anything to say. i'm tired but not sleepy. mixtape number two is almost done uploading so look out for that later on today. i'm downloading the green day live dvd "bullet in a bible" and its taking forever. if anyone has seen it and would like to let me know if its worth it, please feel free. i'm watching friends right now, i haven't done that in a while so all the episodes sound sort of new. when you use your powerbook in the bathtub and the water begins to drain you quickly realize how naked, wet and soapy you are. just a tip. well i'm going to try and get some more hot water in the tub, its getting a little chilly. love love love.
